Following a week of consultations by World Trade Organization negotiators, no new meaningful flexibilities emerged. However, according to agriculture talks' chairperson Crawford Falconer at least some unwritten understandings have been reached.
Falconer called an informal meeting of the full membership last Friday, to summarize his "walks in the woods" consultations with smaller groups of members, to outline his plans for the coming week, and to give members an opportunity to announce new flexibilities, although no one did. Falconer says he wants members to announce the changes in the stance on issues by Friday.
Ambassador Falconer said he would continue his consultations and hold another informal meeting of the full membership this Friday, and possibly another meeting during the week.
