Ambassador Crawford Falconer, the chairman of the agricultural negotiations of the Doha World Trade Organization talks, released working papers that outlined gains made in export competition over the past few months.
However there are still many complex issues left to be worked out in agriculture negotiations, and agriculture is seen as the keystone for the global trade talks that also include industrial goods and services.
Falconer has pushed the release of a new negotiating text covering all the agriculture talks back to the end of November or the first part of December. WTO Director General Pascal Lamy again stressed the need to complete the talks this year before the 2008 U.S. Presidential election hamstrings U.S. negotiators.
