World Biofuels Conference Underway

Dinneen plans to challenge misleading claims about American ethanol.

Published: May 19, 2010

The World Biofuels 2010 Conference is underway in Seville, Spain. Renewable Fuels Association President and CEO Bob Dinneen is on the meeting's agenda and is expected to challenge the misleading claims about American ethanol production, including its relative cost-competitiveness with other producers such as Brazil.

Dinneen planned to tell attendees that despite claims from other ethanol producers, America is the world's low cost producer of ethanol today. Advancements in ethanol production technologies, together with the unprecedented productivity of American farmers - allow American ethanol producers to cost-effectively supply domestic markets and increasingly those around the world.

As the low cost producer of ethanol today, Dinneen will note America is enjoying the same opportunities many thought were solely the province of Brazil. Competition in the world market according to Dinneen, undermines the claims that the ethanol import policies in the U.S. and other nations are barriers to trade. He suggests the market is clearly showing consistent policies across the globe will reward the low-cost producer.
