With farmers returning to the field across the northern hemisphere to plant fewer acres this spring, fertilizer prices again eased lower on international markets this week. This appears to suggest that prices have begun their typical seasonal decline into summer.
Prices for anhydrous ammonia were off $3.50 a ton out of the Black Sea, though they remained steady at the Gulf at $288.50. That translates into a farmgate price between $450 to $500 a ton on fresh supplies brought up river, though most dealers are substantially higher.
DAP fell around $2 a ton at the Gulf to $306.50, suggesting a retail price of $465. Urea also was around $2 lower a ton at the Gulf to $284.25, and fell $5 out of the Black Sea, indicating a farm price of around $395 a ton.
Potash prices remain high by historical standards, but continue to look soft, with a fair farmgate price indicated around $700 a ton.
