Recent hurricanes and tropical storms have provided a lot of moisture along the Gulf Coast as well as a large section of the Midwest. This has kept farmers from seeding winter wheat and further delayed harvest of the few corn and soybeans that are fully mature. However USDA Brad Rippey says some favorable weather can be expected.
"We have a very warm air mass over the Northern Plains and the West," Rippey says. "That warm air will be spreading eastward and locking itself into place across the Plains and the Midwest over the next several days. It really looks like this pattern will continue for the better part of the next couple of weeks, and that is great news for these slow developing summer crops across the Plains and Midwest."
In addition to the increased pace of field work that this will bring, Rippey says that it should help alleviate some concerns about those late planted crops.
