President Bush vetoed the Farm Bill Wednesday and the House of Representatives overrode the veto Wednesday evening. The vote was 316-108 in favor of overriding the veto. A small snag occurred when it was discovered that the Trade title of the Farm Bill was not sent to the President. However House Agriculture Chairman Collin Peterson, D-Minn., told members that a technical correction could be used to reconcile the bill and the vote was held.
Although the Senate had planned to take up the veto Wednesday night, it was pushed back until Thursday. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., told the chamber that the mistake would be worked out and a vote would be held Thursday. There is some speculation that Congress may have to send the bill back to the President for a do-over.
