Secretary of Agriculture Ed Schafer has made the decision to use 2007 and 2008 crop years as the base for the Average Crop Revenue Program established in the 2008 Farm Bill. However he says there is still a lot of red tape to cut through.
"I've made a decision about where I think we ought to go here at USDA," says Schafer. "We need to round the ACRE program through our departments here and get everyone on board, because we have a lot of differences in opinion. And then of course the big deal is we have to get it through the Office of Budget and Management over at the White House. We're working through the process and hopefully will be able to announce a decision soon."
