Record floods that started in the upper Midwest and are now moving south, have acres disappearing under water, but how much is being lost is still to be determined. USDA is taking note of that situation and may be considering an added acreage survey to be conducted in July.
At least one wire service is reporting that the agency's National Agricultural Statistics Service is considering an added survey. The acreage report set to come out on Monday, June 30, covers only the first two weeks of June, before major floods did their damage.
If the agency does decide to embark on another acreage survey next month, the results would be made available in August.
