U.S. Soybean Harvest Off To Slow Start

A record corn crop and rainy weather has hindered the pace of early season soybean harvest.

Published: Sep 13, 2007

The USDA did not release a national figure for the soybean harvest in this week's crop report, but judging by state figures, harvest is running a bit behind average.  So far farmers have harvested less than 50 million bushels, which is less than two percent of the 2.625 billion bushels most estimates have this year's soybean crop pegged at.

Mississippi has made the most progress in harvesting with over 34 percent of the state's soybean crop cut. However at this point in the season Mississippi usually has more than half the crop out of the field. Combines are starting to roll in parts of Missouri, Illinois and Indiana.
