U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk and Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry Rachid Mohammed Rachid have signed a Plan for a Strategic Partnership, which aims to further promote economic cooperation between the two countries. In a joint statement, the two government officials said it is their firm belief that greater economic cooperation between the two countries will benefit both sides by supporting sound government policies that create jobs, boost investment, and build sustainable development.
The agreement instructs senior officials from both the United States and Egypt to develop a framework over the next 90 days for cooperation in a number of trade and investment areas. Businesses are invited to participate in the work to find practical solutions that effectively address the challenges businesses face.
