Top Farmer Meeting Agenda Released

Annual Purdue event set July 17 to 20 in West Lafayette.

Published: Jun 15, 2011

Top farmers are getting ready to gather in West Lafayette, Ind., in July. The 44th Annual Top Farmer Crop Workshop is set July 17 to 20 on the campus of Purdue University.

This week, organizers released a complete agenda for the annual event.

From a read on the "landscape of U.S. agriculture" to a look at "putting macroeconomics in your marketing strategy" this three-day event covers a lot of territory.

The range of speakers includes experts from across the country offering insight into a long list of hot topics. If you're looking for a management jump start the event is just right for your farm. Cost for the first registrant is $400 and $200 for additional registrants from the same group.

As the organizers note, attendees to this workshop will learn about new crop production technology; have an opportunity to use the linear programming model to test changes in your management; discover new ways to manage inputs and deal with risk; understand agriculture's responsibility for innovation; and meet, network and share ideas with peer farmers.

Workshop content follows several major subject areas that producers indicate is critical to their success: strategic growth and financial management, marketing and risk management, technology assessment, crop production, and farm operational management. Each year a committee of Purdue faculty/staff and farmer advisers examine the critical issues facing farmers in each major topic area, decide on a set of topics best suited to address those issues, then find the subject matter experts most qualified to communicate to attendees. The workshop is delivered classroom style—spearheaded by a moderator that introduces topics, facilitates questions, elicits interaction, and stops speakers’ mid-stream if issues need clarification. Presentations are designed to maximize learning, with a mix of individual presentations, expert panels, Q and A, demonstrations.
