September crop reports issued Friday by USDA won't be the last word on 2009 markets, but they should help define the issues facing the market as harvest looms. Farm Futures Market Analyst Arlan Suderman and Senior Editor Bryce dissected both the numbers from the reports and their potential impact on the market in the latest edition of The Buzz.
Other than yields, which are still very much up in the air, the biggest uncertainty remains demand for soybeans. Exports are huge at the start of the marketing year, but USDA has been reluctant to increase its forecast, despite a track record of low-balling its estimate of sales in the past, says Suderman.
Outside markets could also factor in. Investors mostly appeared to be in a buying mood this week, according to Knorr, with gold leading the charge higher.
