Volatility in grain and input prices the past several years has caused many producers to re-evaluate their crop leases. Marshall Jokisch of Ashland, Illinois developed a spreadsheet designed to remove some of the emotions from lease evaluation. It com-pares three different crop share leases (50/50, 60/40 & cash rent) utilizing personalized production costs. The spreadsheet compares the profitability of the options, providing you with a rate of return on investment and total profit or loss for each. It also allows you to test sensitivity of the analysis against changing yields and prices and is designed to work for corn, soybeans and wheat.
The 52-kilobyte spreadsheet should work with Excel 2000, 2002, 2007 or Excel XP. You can download it by clicking below.
