Support Growing Against Dust Rule

More elected officials voicing opposition to proposed rule.

National Cattlemen's Beef Association President Bill Donald says it is encouraging to hear members of Congress voice opposition to the Environmental Protection Agency's ongoing effort to regulate dust at an unprecedented level. He said if EPA moves forward this spring with a proposed rule to regulate coarse particulate matter, or dust, at levels twice as stringent as the current standard, cattle producers across the country will be negatively impacted.

Donald says, in the beef cattle business dust is inevitable. If EPA moves forward with this overreaching regulation, ranchers could be fined for everyday activities like driving down the road, moving cattle or tilling a field. The NCBA president says it is encouraging that some elected officials understand the detrimental impacts this regulation could have on production agriculture and he hopes EPA is listening.

During debate of House Resolution 72, which instructs congressional committees to investigate existing, pending, and proposed regulations that hurt job creation and economic growth, Representative Vicky Hartzler, D-Mo., said EPA is advancing numerous rules that are harmful to agriculture. They call it air quality. Hartzler said - where I'm from, it's called living in the country.

The Dust Rule is ridiculous. On the other hand, why is nothing being done about the air/water pollution from natural gas drilling and fracking in Wyoming and Pennsylvania?
