Ag coalition of agriculture, commodity and livestock groups join together to encourage the passage of CAFTA.
A new study released Monday by the Agriculture Coalition for CAFTA-DR demonstrates that the Free Trade Agreement with five of the Central American countries and the Dominican Republic provides overwhelming benefits for American agriculture.
Also on Monday the coalition gathered together to rally with Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns to send a clear message that a CAFTA passage would benefit agriculture and unlike many other negotiated trade agreements, CAFTA does not offer U.S. agriculture as a sacrificial lamb to help other U.S. sectors.
The study examined the benefits of CAFTA on a local basis for 40 congressional districts with significant agricultural production. Research found exceptional evidence that CAFTA will greatly benefit local economies in these agricultural-rich communities.
Conducted by Ross Korves, an independent economic policy analyst, the study utilized U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Census of Agriculture data as well as publicly available information from the American Farm Bureau Federation. The study is available online at
