Renewable energy, broadband access and other measures are positive for rural America.

President Barrack Obama was in Denver Tuesday and signed the $787 billion economic stimuls bill that made it through Congress at the end of last week. He told those gathered at the signing that the essential work of keeping the American dream alive has begun.

The stimulus package provides a combination of tax cuts and investments, some of which will reach into rural America. For example there is money and support for renewable energy projects and research.

"It can create countless well-paying jobs," Obama said. "It's an investment that will double the amount of renewable energy produced over the next three years."

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says other projects in rural areas will also be funded by the stimulus package.

"It will invest substantial sums of money in broadband access, new wastewater facilities and new construction projects," Vilsack said. "All of which are important to put people to work in rural America."
