The first findings of soybean rust in Missouri in 2007 were confirmed Tuesday in Pemiscot and Scott counties. Massac County, Illinois discovered rust on Wednesday.
The southwestern region of Missouri is still behind in soybean crop development with only seven percent dropping leaves and one percent mature. However the incidence and severity of the rust found was extremely low, and at the slow rate that the disease appears to be moving and building up, the risk of significant losses from soybean rust decreases each day.
New discoveries of rust have been popping up in Kansas, Arkansas and Louisiana over the past few days and current model forecasts show a risk for soybean rust throughout much of the Midwest.
So far, soybean rust has been found in 133 counties in 13 states. To track the spread of rust, click HERE.
