The U.S. Trade Representative's office says that officials will meet their South Korean counterparts later this week to try to finalize the free trade agreement signed last fall. According to a media notice released by the USTR office, Assistant U.S. Trade Representative Wendy Cutler and Korean Deputy Trade Minister Choi Seok-young will attend the annual meeting of the U.S.-Korea Business Council to be held in Los Angeles, Calif., this weekend. They will meet January 20-21 to continue work on the legal text for the Dec. 3, 2010 accompanying agreement to the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement.
Last week U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk said he would like to have the legislation implementing the trade pact with South Korea approved by Congress by the start of July. Approval is also needed from South Korea's legislature.
The trade agreement has broad support among many American agricultural groups.
