A goal of the National Sorghum Producers Board of Directors was finally realized on Tuesday as a national checkoff on sorghum was implemented. The board has been working for more than two years to create the program that will ultimately contribute to the improved development of the sorghum industry.
"The first checked-off load represents a milestone for the sorghum industry," says NSP President Dale Murden. "This step will lead to more research on sorghum, better markets for sorghum, and eventually more acres for this crop."
The checkoff rate for grain sorghum is 0.6% of value which is collected at the first point of sale while forage sorghum has a rate of 0.35%.
