While wandering through the aisles of hundreds of displays of the latest in irrigation technology at the Irrigation Association's big show in San Antonio, I ran onto this neat history book -- full of great pictures and information.
Rainmakers is a 96-page coffee table book that features an indepth photographic look at the history of center pivot irrigation. It includes a foreword by Congressman Tom Osborne, an essay by David Howe, former editor of the Nebraska Farmer, and an epilogue by Susan Seacrest.
The new publication is available directly through the Ground Water Foundation, www.groundwater.org (or call (800) 858-4844. The book sells for $17.50. It looks like a super gift for those interested in agricultural history and for those who have an appreciation for mechanical technology.
