The Midwest can expect some rain in the next few days according to USDA meteorologist Brad Rippy. A storm system will move through the Midwest, through the Mississippi Valley and on to the east bringing showers. Rippey says that is good news for areas of the upper Midwest and Ohio Valley that have been extremely dry over the past few months. However he says it also increases concerns in a few areas, in particular Missouri and Illinois.
"They were affected by the remnants of Hurricanes Gustav, Ike and Eastern Pacific Tropical Storm Lowell earlier in September," Rippey says.
That moisture has resulted in delays in crop progress and harvest for both corn and soybeans. Rippey says Missouri and Illinois as well as much of the northern U.S. can expect above normal rainfall over the next two weeks.
