Sneak Peak at U.S. Winter Wheat Conditions

National Agricultural Statistics Service offices in several key wheat states issued condition reports this week ahead of USDA's first national crop rating on Monday. Most of the recently planted crop is in good to fair condition, which according to Bill Nelson of A.G. Edwards, suggests average yield potential of the new crop.

Hard red winter wheat is 83% planted in Kansas with 51% rated good and 28% fair. Plants are looking healthy although rain is needed in many areas. Texas and Oklahoma are slightly behind the planting pace of Kansas, but condition ratings are at a similar ratio.

Soft red winter wheat plantings in the eastern U.S have benefited from better weather. Ninety-four percent of SRW was planted in Ohio with 60% rated good, 23% fair and 16% in excellent condition.
