Traders watching the fallout from the oil spill caused by the loss of the Deepwater Horizon more than a month ago. While the U.S. Administration was accused of sending mixed messages over the spill and its cleanup over the weekend, one area on the radar is a key shipping lane for U.S. grain exports.
So far the news is good. Louisiana's Southwest Pass, a major shipping lane, remains free of crude from the oil spill disaster. A spokesman for the Port of New Orleans told wire services late last week that there was no oil found within 5 miles of the pass. That means that as of now, the entrance to the Mississippi River remains clear.
The Port has already established cleaning stations in the event arriving vessels get oiled while traveling through the area. It's more fallout from the oil drilling disaster.
