Senate Names Conferees for WRDA

Lock and dam measure takes another step closer to reality.

The House and Senate versions of the Water Resources Development Act will get their day in conference soon now that the Senate has named conferees for the measure. WRDA would authorize construction of seven 1,200-foot locks on the Upper Mississippi and Illinois Rivers, along with port upgrades, flood control projects, beach renourishment and ecosystem restoration projects.

The National Corn Growers Association, one of several groups supporting the measure, has already issued a called to members to get in touch with lawmakers to support the measure.

The Senate conferees are: Sens. James Inhofe, R-Okla., who will be chairing the conference; Kit Bond,R-Mo.; John Warner,R-Va.; George Voinovich, R-Ohio; Lincoln Chafee, R-R.I.; Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska; David Vitter, R-La.; Jim Jeffords, D-Vt.; Max Baucus, D-Mont.; Joseph Lieberman, D-Conn.; Barbara Boxer, D-Calif.; and Tom Carper, D-Del.
