On Friday, the Senate Finance Committee passed the Peru Trade Promotion Agreement by an 18-3 vote without amendment in a mock mark-up. Finance Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., praised the bipartisan support that was shown to move forward on the measure.
After speaking favorably about the agreement at a meeting of the House Democratic Caucus last week, Congressman Charlie Rangel, D-NY, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee has reportedly scheduled a mock mark-up for Tuesday of the Peru Trade Promotion Agreement.
Although mock mark-ups are non-binding, usually they are followed by binding votes on trade agreements. The Peru agreement is one of four free trade agreements that are pending Congressional approval.
