USDA's Rural Utilities Service and the Commerce Department's National Telecommunications and Information Administration have announced they are streamlining the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act's broadband grant and loan programs by awarding the remaining funding in just one more round, instead of two rounds.
Lawrence Strikling, Assistant Secretary for Communications and Information and Administrator of NTIA says based on the experience with the first funding round, including the overwhelming response seen from applicants nationwide, this consolidated approach brings a number of benefits.
Johnathan Adelstein, Administrator of USDA's Rural Utilities Service says this will get the funds out the door faster to stimulate the economy and create jobs.
