U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has released a report he previewed Tuesday. It's to serve as a roadmap for achieving the nation's renewable energy goals. Renewable Fuels Association President Bob Dinneen says his group looks forward to working with the department, Secretary Vilsack and the Obama Administration to answer the President's call to break America's addiction to oil. Dinneen says Vilsack and USDA have rightfully identified the crucial areas in which the department can help accelerate the growth of the industry and ensure the Renewable Fuels Standard delivers on the goals provided when Congress passed the legislation.
The report details the challenges to ensuring the full 36-billion gallons of renewable fuel mandated by the RFS are produced and used. It specifically highlights the need for increased efforts to accelerate commercialization of next generation ethanol technologies and expanding existing fueling infrastructure for optimized ethanol use. RFA continues to pressure EPA to issue a full waiver for 15% ethanol blends and an immediate interim step of 12% ethanol blends. Dinneen says now is when the rubber meets the road and Obama and Vilsack's plans are put into action.
