Renewable Fuels Association Poll Shows Ethanol Support

A new nationwide poll shows strong support for the development of alternative fuels.

The Renewable Fuels Association released a nationwide survey today that indicates strong support for government involvement in the development of alternative fuels.

The results of the poll, conducted Jan. 8-9 by The Winston Group, 85% of respondents agreeing that the government should be involved in the development of alternative fuels and 84% agreeing that the government should provide incentives for alternative fuel production.

80% or more respondents also agreed that ethanol has an important role in weaning America off of oil dependence, that ethanol from corn is an important step towards expanding towards cellulosic ethanol production, and that ethanol helps economies in farm states.

A lower number of respondents - although, at 60%, still a majority - said they think ethanol also impacts the economies of states that are not traditionally farm states.

Only by realizing the production capacity of both grain-based and cellulosic ethanol can we meet the presidential and Congressional goals to reduce our foreign oil dependence," says Bob Dinneen, RFA President.

The poll with a margin of error of +/- 3.1% surveyed 1000 registered voters on January 8-9.  The Winston Group is a national opinion research and strategy firm.

A complete look at the polling results including graphical representation of the findings can be found as http://www.ethanolrfa.org/objects/documents/932/ethanol_national_survey.pdf.
