Putting Wind Energy Education, Networking At Farmer Fingertips

The 2011 WINDPOWER Conference will get underway on Sunday, May 22 in Anaheim, Calif. The event is organized by the American Wind Energy Association, and according to AWEA Director of Marketing and Sales Lori Rugh, offers unparalleled access to the wind industry for those who are interested in capitalizing on this growing market.
"It is the absolutely the largest wind energy conference and exposition in the world," Rugh said. "We have about 20,000 of our closest friends who come with us and join us at this event. We have over 1,100 exhibitors and we'll see large pieces of equipment, great networking, wonderful educational sessions and fun events too."
Rugh says there are over 50 educational sessions covering everything from policy to technical issues; scientific sessions that provide more technical details and information from industry experts; general sessions with influential leaders and visionaries of the wind industry, including Ted Turner; and power sessions that are designed to educate attendees on the key areas of the industry.
Given the opportunities wind energy development is making available to rural America, Rugh says the 2011 WINDPOWER Conference and Exhibition has a lot to offer the nation's farmers and ranchers.
"Ninety-eight percent of our U.S. wind turbines are located on private land such as farms and ranches," Rugh said. "Each typical wind turbine brings about an average of $3,000 in additional income each year to a farmer or rancher while allowing them to still use their land. So this is chance to learn more about the opportunities and how they can grab on to this latest cash crop."
