Producers Should Signup Early for CSP

NRCS head says there is no time to waste.

USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service extended sign-up for the Conservation Security Program until May 30. Producers in the 51 eligible watersheds are being urged by NRCS Chief Arlen Lancaster to not waste time signing up for the program.

"My hope is that those producers don't wait until those last days, because if you wait to the last days there's going to be a lot of lines at the door and a lot of frazzled folks," Lancaster says. "So my hope is they get in early."

Originally signup was to end on May 16, but Lancaster says field work and some natural disasters prompted the agency to extend the deadline because some producers would simply have not been able to signup. Eligible producers wishing to enroll in CSP should visit their local NRCS office as soon as possible.
