Monday afternoon, the House Budget Committee began its work on the health care package during a markup session. The reconciliation bill they looked at contained proposals previously submitted by three panels with jurisdiction over health care issues: Energy and Commerce, Ways and Means, and Education and Labor. The bill will also contain the student loan measure.
Democrats will use a series of parliamentary procedures to try to pass the health care legislation. House leaders hope to clear the Senate-passed bill by the end of the week or soon thereafter. It will then be considered with a companion bill, to be sent to the Senate that would amend the Senate measure with changes demanded by House Democrats.
