Predictions Indicate GHG Emissions Falling

Ethanol production is reducing green house gases.

Published: Mar 23, 2011

The firm 2 Consultants Inc. has produced data demonstrating the positive impact of global ethanol production on reducing green house gases. The consultants' figures reveal that world ethanol production in 2011 will reduce global GHG emissions by 105 million tons. This represents a reduction of more than 287,000 tons per day. These figures were released at the annual World Biofuels Markets conference in Toronto, Canada, sponsored by the Global Renewable Fuels Alliance.

Bliss Baker, a spokesperson for GRFA, says this is very promising news. These figures clearly show that biofuels are playing a critical role in reducing harmful GHG emissions around the globe. He says biofuels can curb our global addiction to oil and this data is proof that biofuels are vital in the fight against climate change.

Looking ahead, F.O. Licht is predicting global ethanol production in 2011 will grow by over 3% to 88.7 billion liters. This increase in production will result in a 9% growth in GHG reductions.
