Tuesday President Bush nominated U.S. Trade Representative Rob Portman to fill the Office of Management and Budget director position. If confirmed, Portman would fill former OMB director Josh Bolten's position, President Bush's new chief of staff.
Bush nominated Deputy USTR Susan Schwab to fill Portman's position. "Having worked side by side with Susan these past months, I have every confidence in her leadership. With her at the helm, USTR won't miss a beat," Portman says.
Schwab first joined the USTR team 29 years ago as an agricultural trade negotiator. Since that first job at USTR, she's worked for Missouri Sen. John Danforth and the Senate Finance Committee, representing Motorola in Asia, and served as Dean of the University of Maryland's School of Public Policy.
In her acceptance speech she remained committed to seeing a successful round of World Trade Organization talks and the equally ambitious bilateral and regional trade agenda.
Each nomination needs Senate confirmation.
