Polls Open on Mid-Term Elections
Hot races around the country will impact ag as shift of power looms.

Any way you look at it and no matter the party you support, the 2010 mid-term election is perhaps the most contentious since the "Contract with America" days of 1994. There are 37 governor races too that could change the makeup of legislatures across the country.
Major ag groups urge everyone to vote and keep in mind which candidates have ag's interests at heart - regardless of their party. The Tea Party push for total change has created new energy across the electorate and watching poll returns tonight will be fascinating.
The biggest concern among farm groups is what Steve Foglsong, president of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, calls "unprecedented government overreach." He, along with other farm leaders, point to several industries from banking to cars to the environment and how the current administration "thinks burdensome rules are a hot trend."
Foglesong contends that a "few folks in Washington are bent on regulating us out of business." And it's hard to argue as he points to more than 1,100 new regulations in the past 17 months from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency alone. He points to a bipartisan letter signed by 75 members of Congress showing concern for EPA's "overreach."
