Officials are Meeting about Doha in Geneva This Week

WTO nations will try to move Doha trade talks forward.

A U.S. delegation is traveling to Geneva this week to meet with other member nations of the World Trade organization in an attempt to move forward the Doha Round of global trade talks. A ministerial meeting at the end of July ended in a collapse as disagreements broke out between several nations.

"What's going to happen is a few of the senior officials will return to Geneva to revisit some of the issues that were left outstanding when the talks broke up," USDA Chief Economist Joe Glauber says. "They broke up over some very tough issues. I think what we want to get is some assessment of where members are right now. So seniors said they would go in for a very short set of talks to get some notion of where things stood and if there was any basis to move forward.

Brazil's foreign minister said last week that there is a chance to resolve some of the issues and move talks forward. Glauber says though this week's meeting is more evaluation than negotiation.
