The National Pork Producers Council and the American Farm Bureau Federation are happy with the nomination by President Obama of Dr. Islam Siddiqui as the Chief Agricultural Negotiator in the office of the U.S. Trade Representative. NPPC says USTR is critical to the health and profitability of the U.S. pork industry. USTR's mission is to develop and coordinate U.S. international trade, commodity, and direct investment policy, and overseeing negotiations with other countries.
NPPC President Don Butler says they're pleased to see someone with such a strong agriculture background as Siddiqui nominated for this post, calling him a tough negotiator.
American Farm Bureau Federation President Bob Stallman says Farm Bureau has worked with Siddiqui throughout his career and look forward to continue working with Dr. Siddiqui to expand trade for U.S. farm products across the globe. Stallman went on to say that he brings to the position important scientific expertise and valuable experience in trade, biotechnology and regulatory issues vital to the interest of America's farmers and ranchers.
