North Carolina Added to the Rust List

This is the first case of Asian soybean rust in North Carolina this year.

Published: Oct 11, 2007

Asian soybean rust has been confirmed in a Sentinel test plot in New Hanover County in North Carolina. According to the North Carolina Department of Agriculture 54 percent of the state's soybeans have dropped their leaves, so only late planted soybeans in the southeastern part of the state may need to be sprayed. The fungicides Stratego, Domark, Tilt, and Laredo have received full Section 3 registration for use on soybeans.

The find in North Carolina along with confirmations over the past few days in Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Georgia and Mississippi have raised the number of counties to 193 that soybean rust has been found in 2007. North Carolina is the seventeenth state to confirm a case of the disease this year.
