During the National Cattlemen's Beef Association's Fall Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C., the new Chairwoman of the Senate Ag Committee, Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark., laid out her agenda for agriculture. Lincoln didn't hesitate when she said she wants to create an environment where cattlemen can produce.
Lincoln is opposed to the House passed cap-and-trade legislation. But, she said she does support investments to develop renewable energy and energy conservation. As for other issues Lincoln told the nation's cattle producers that Estate Tax relief will be an uphill battle, but that she does believe something must be done.
Senator Lincoln is also concerned about the effort to change the term navigable waters to waters of the United States in the Clean Water Act. On trade, she said we should not unilaterally disarm farmers in the global marketplace.
