NCGA Announces Corn Yield Winners

27 winners in nine categories had yields of over 240 bushels per acre.

NCGA announced its National Corn Yield Contest winners Monday morning, chosen from 3,157 entrants in 44 states.

Seven of the winners had verified yields over 300 bushels per acre, compared to the national average of 151.2 bushels per acre. The 27 winners in nine categories all had yields over 240 bushels per acre.

The geography of this year's winners varied a bit from the past.

"This year we had winners from such non-traditional areas as Idaho and Utah," says NCGA president Ken McCauley.

"Poor weather at harvest time lowered yields from some areas in the Midwest, but that's part of the challenges that all farmers meet," he says.

National and state winners will be honored at the 2007 Commodity Classic, March 1-3 in Tampa, Fla.
