Morocco Presents New Opportunity for U.S. Grain Sorghum

Second sale of the year is in route.

The U.S. Grains Council is intensifying its sorghum marketing efforts as a result of United Sorghum Checkoff Program funding. That's resulted in the second sale of U.S. sorghum to Morocco this year. A vessel headed for the North African country earlier this week carrying 25,000 tons of grain sorghum.

USGC Senior Director of International Operations Chris Corry and other Council representatives were in Morocco earlier this year to meet with four major importers of feed grains. Corry says the importers were misinformed about U.S. sorghum so the Grains Council set the record straight by providing real-time market information on the crop and pricing.

Sorghum producer and checkoff board member Troy Skarke says the Moroccan purchase demonstrates the strong return on investment the United Sorghum Checkoff Program facilitates for sorghum producers.
