Monday Marks Beginning of Farm Program Signups

Several program signup periods begin Monday.

Published: Dec 22, 2008

The USDA Farm Service Agency will start signing up producers for the Direct and Countercyclical Payment program on Monday, Dec. 22, 2008. The deadline for DCP signup is June 1, 2009. Although signup for the revenue-based ACRE program will not begin until next spring, according to FSA officials, producers who signup for DCP will be able to change their mind and select that election when signup does start.

Another program that will begin signups on Monday is the Milk Income Loss Contract program, which runs through 2012. The 2008 Farm Bill reauthorized the MILC Program and maked three key changes in program operation. Under the 2008 Act the MILC payment rate and the per-operation poundage limit are modified, a feed cost adjuster is introduced, and a flexible target will be used to figure payment rate percentages.

More details about all programs, changes, and signups are available at local FSA offices.
