Bloomberg is reporting today that Mexico's Agriculture Minister is denying speculation of a case of bird flu near Nogales on the U.S.-Mexico border. According to the report, Jose Angel Del Valle, told Bloomberg the country is free of the disease.
Mexico has monitors its poultry industry closely - an industry that produces 6 million chickens per day. A Brazilian Web site reported Wednesday that a case was found in Nogales, and Reuters reported on the speculation.
Earlier this week Bush Administration officials held a press conference where they told media they expect the disease to get into the United States soon; but that when it arrives there would be little need for panic.
In addition, a spokesperson for USDA told the Dow-Jones news service that reports of the Mexico outbreak were a hoax.
