Measure Your Farm's Growth

A net worth statement provides an annual snapshot of your business' health.

Did your farm equity grow in 2010? What is your current farm financial temperature as 2010 comes to a close? Comparing net worth statements at the end of each year provides an indicator of farm growth, or the lack thereof. A quality net worth statement also communicates to you and to your lender your ability to pay off current debts, as well as take on additional debt. William Edwards of Iowa State University created a spreadsheet for developing a year-end net worth statement.

We’re featuring the spreadsheet as our Farm Futures Spreadsheet of the Month.

The 74 kilobyte spreadsheet should work with Excel 2000, 2002, 2007 or Excel XP. You can download it by using the link below.

Do you have a spreadsheet that’s made a difference on your operation that you’d be willing to share with other readers? Drop us a line at FarmFutures@farmprogress.com with a description of the spreadsheet. We’ll pay $75 if we feature your farmer-written non-commercial program as our Spreadsheet of the Month.
