Senate Ag Committee Chairman Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark., says it's going to be a tough year to consider a new farm bill. So Lincoln plans to be more focused on USDA's implementation of the 2008 Farm Bill, making sure the Administration understands what Congress intended in the Farm Bill.
Lincoln remains hopeful that her $2.1 billion aid package will win approval by mid-February. The Senate failed to act on disaster relief for farmers before Christmas. Also Lincoln wants to see markup of legislation aimed at giving the Commodity Futures Trading Commission more authority to regulate commodity and financial futures markets.
