The National Farmers Union says all future trade agreements must address all factors of trade, including an assurance that trading partners meet the same high labor, environmental, and health and safety standards required by U.S. producers. That was the major part of the message NFU sent to U.S. Trade Representative-designee Ron Kirk.
The NFU board also re-iterated the organization's endorsement of the Trade Reform Accountability Development and Employment Act which would create a new trade agenda that recognizes the importance of agriculture production.
NFU pledged to work with Kirk to identify priorities for United States trade policy, resolve problems that exist in current agreements and provide a foundation for future trade negotiations.
