K-State Chosen to House Bio-Agro Defense Facility

Kansas State University in Manhattan has been selected as the location for the
National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF), according to reports in Washington, D.C. and the office of Congressman Jerry Moran, R-Kan.
Studies conducted at the $451 million federal laboratory will research ways to protect citizens and animals from the threat of disease. The facility will also create hundreds of new jobs for the Kansas economy.
"Kansas received an early Christmas gift by learning today that Kansas State University has been chosen to house our country's premier bio-security federal research laboratory," Moran said. "There is no place better suited than Manhattan, Kansas, to serve as the location for this important mission."
"The competition across the country for the NBAF has been fierce and Kansas was successful by combining the efforts of local, state and federal leaders to convince DHS that Kansas held the key to NBAF's success. Our state's centralized location, skilled workforce, infrastructure, strong citizen support and inherent interest in protecting our agricultural livelihood make it a natural fit for the facility."
NBAF will be a home for scientists from DHS, the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Health and Human Services to research biological and agricultural threats to humans and animals.
As a member of the Kansas NBAF Task Force, bringing NBAF to Kansas has been a top priority for Moran.
