According to media reports, Mike Johanns will tour Nebraska next week to formally announce his bid for the Senate seat that came open when Senator Chuck Hagel announced he would not seek re-election.
Johanns, who served as Nebraska's governor before taking on the role of ag secretary for three years, has the GOP's national senatorial committee's support. However; Johanns faces Jon Bruning, the Nebraska attorney general, and businessman Pat Flynn in May's Republican primary.
Former congressman and Omaha Mayor Hal Daub decided to drop out of the GOP race last week. Bob Kerrey, a former Nebraska senator and governor, is being suggested as a Democratic candidate.
