Is a FiberMax Couch In Your Future?

Bayer CropScience enters unique licensing agreement with Olah Inc.

Published: Feb 2, 2011

New York-based textile and apparel company Olah Inc.and Bayer CropScience have signed a 10-year agreement to allow Olah to develop and market FiberMax and Stoneville cotton in its products.

The agreement initially covers North America, Mexico and Japan and can be extended to other nations in the future. It also allows the right to sublicense the brand names to other manufacturers.

Both FiberMax and Stoneville cotton brands are well-known in the cotton and apparel industries, and each offers a unique profile that appeals to different segments of the textile industry. FiberMax is high quality, long-staple upland cotton grown mainly in the U.S. and is ideally suited for finished goods—t-shirts, chinos, towels and bedsheets—that require finer yarn for manufacturing. Stoneville cotton is strong and suitable for use in heavier weight fabrics including work, sport and casual wear items such as jeans.

The agreement will allow consumers for the first time to be able to purchase cotton garments or home furnishings labeled with FiberMax or Stoneville brand cottons. The ability allows the consumer to know they are buying a quality fiber and can identify it with growers from different areas—further answering questions consumers today are asking when they purchase textiles.
