Informa Forecasts Corn Up Over 7 Million Acres


Analytical firm Informa estimates that 2007-08 planted corn acreage at 85.6 million acres, while soybeans will be down to 70.9 million.

Planted corn acreage in the U.S. in 2007-08 will be up 7.285 million from last year's amount sown, while soybeans will be down 4.644 million from last year, according to estimates released Friday by private analytical firm Informa.

Informa forecasts U.S. corn acres at 85.612 million acres and soybeans at 70.878 million; USDA has 2006 corn acreage at 78.327 million acres and soybeans at 75.522 million acres.

The firm also estimates 2007 winter wheat acreage at 44.089 million acres, 3.514 million higher than USDA's 2006 estimate of 40.575. Informa's spring wheat acreage estimate is down 548,000 acres from 2006 plantings, at 14.351 million acres. The durum estimate comes in at 1.930 million acres, up 60,000 from 2006.

USDA is scheduled to release its 2007-08 prospective plantings report on March 30.
