How Bullish Should Your Corn Strategy Be?

Weekly Corn Review offers a look at the pile of positive indicators for the market.
Bryce Knorr
Published: Mar 16, 2009

Just when it looked like spring might never come to the corn market, futures received a triple dose of bullish news this week:

  • USDA cut ending stocks unexpectedly, trimming 50 million bushels off carryout due to stronger ethanol demand.
  • Private acreage estimates began trickling into the market predicting farmers will cut corn plantings this spring due to high costs and uncertain prices.
  • The stock market held the previous week's lows and rallied as some of the doom and gloom from the financial markets lifted.

In response, both old and new crop futures confirmed breakouts above the resistance line drawn off 2009 highs on the charts, setting the stage for the long-awaited rally to buy acres.
